Visit to Prakrit at Hoshangabad
Recently I had the chance to visit the 'Prakrit' - Silk factory and outlet in Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Here on interaction with the staff and employees I got to know that 90% of the workers who work in the Silk Factory are women! In a country where women are mainly not allowed to leave their homes and are supposed to just do the household work, this place was a complete exception!
Looking at women from all age groups I came to know that these women do all the household chores and then come to work in the factory. They work in order to help and support their children's education and the family.
On interaction with Kavita - an employee at the store here in "Prakrit",I got to know the wonderful working environment and timely payments that these women receive. Also the salary that the workers in the factory receive is depended upon the quality and work of silk threads that they produce.
It was a marvelous experience to see the Women Empowerment in "Prakrit"!
